Before I was even married, I babysat for a cool, hippie mom who did everything differently from what I had ever experienced. She breastfeed on demand, played on the floor with her kids, took them everywhere, read books to them in bed, and the strangest thing...she took her baby with her and her husband on dates while I stayed at home with the younger ones. Late at night when all the kids were asleep I would sit in her kitchen and eat chocolate chips from a bag she kept in the freezer (for mom emergencies) and read from her very extensive collection of Mothering Magazines.
